The story of two girls, Lisa and Julie, who are coming of age in a pit village community being torn apart by the most devastating social confrontation of the late twentieth century; the miners’ strike. As chaos erupts and their families are divided by loyalty and hardship, the two girls are determined to achieve their ambition of meeting their hero and unlikely love object, Arthur Scargill. Julie and Lisa hatch a plan to achieve their goal and they’ll do anything to see it through. There follows a great deal of laugh-out-loud comedy, mixed with darker moments as the relationships within the village, always overshadowed by the trials of the strike, develop.
